My name is Carl Bullock and this is my work. My work involves the renovation, repair, or refurbishment of old, but sometimes not so old houses.
I range in scope of work from complete strip out and refurbishments to cutting down one or two doors for Camp Hopson carpet department for clients who have had new carpets fitted. I have recently completed a house refurbishment that included; demolition of existing garage, new footings, office and utility on ground floor with two bedrooms above, the enlarging of a kitchen by fitting huge new steel RSJ’s, breaking out old screeds and laying new floors, re-wiring, fitting new pressurised hot water system and central heating, re-plastering, fitting new ceilings, boarding out and insulating the loft, putting in a new ensuite and bathroom, fitting a proper vaulted ceiling to a not so proper conservatory, decorating, then outside fitting new rain water gutters,gullies, drainage, soakaway and building a new garage.
I have a keen interest in using traditional materials and techniques. I have re-pointed 7 houses in my street using lime mortar and burned back and repainted another using breathable paint. I have just finished a repair in an 18th C farmhouse that involved hacking off sand cement render and replacing with lime mortar where damp trapped in solid brick walls had been a problem.
For large refurbishments I need to work with other sub-contractors. However, I am fussy about who I use and I am very happy and trusting of the sub contractors that I do work with.
Some of the work I have done has been the structural repair of roofs. This work has been carried out for Alan Barnes Consulting Engineers. This is firm that I worked for, part time in monitoring structural movement and subsidence in houses for 10 years. They have also been a valuable resource in obtaining planning, completing drawings and advising on many projects I have worked on.
Many of the windows and doors shown have been skilfully made by D+J Cole joinery of Newbury, with whom I have a good working relationship.
I am able to offer a service from obtaining drawings and planning through to completion. Equally I am happy refurbishing and re-designing living spaces.
